What is Mindfulness Meditation ?
We’ve heard so much about mindfulness meditation over the last years and it’s no wonder – the benefits it provides to your mental and physical health have been proven, so much so that the NHS now uses mindfulness therapy for a range of conditions including anxiety, depression, stress and fibromyalgia.
Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other training. To be “mindful” also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment.
When we’re on autopilot our attention is being swept up by a never ending (and not always positive) current of thought processes but when we’re mindful we ‘wake up’ and step out of that current, placing attention where we choose.
It is our hope that you will leave your retreat with a toolbox of meditation and mindfulness techniques to help you bring a calm, non-judgmental balance to your life.
